Rev. Kennedy Gebley Sandy was born unto the union of Mr. and Mrs. Jallah B. Sandy in 1963 in a small town called Keita, Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia. The circumstances that led to his naming “Kennedy” are miraculous, as he was affectionately known as “The Miracle Child”.
While pregnant 9(nine) months, few days after the assassination of president John F. Kennedy of the United States of America, his mother encountered the late president in her dream where she invited him to eat with her, but said he was in a hurry and promised to leave with her his suitcase so as to return the next day to live with her.
She woke up that morning crying while expressing deep fears for having encountered a recently assassinated American president in her dream. Her fears were inherent, in that she misinterpreted the dream as a woman who is about to give birth to a dead child.
The fears prompted her husband to invite his pastor for interpretation who said that the dream was welcoming news for the family and the nation, Liberia generally and they were advised to name the child “Kennedy” after the late American president if the child was a boy. The child was astonishingly born with bleeding skull which caused intense worries by his family and well-wishers.
The worries prompted the intervention of President William V.S. Tubman through Madam Mamis Baker, then head of the Liberian market women association who was present upon the birth of the child, even though President Tubman and his father were personal friends.
Upon President Tubman’s invitation the child was taken to him who later said to the child “President Kennedy, welcome to Liberia and May God make you a blessing to this nation”.
He ordered seven (7) soldiers to accompany the child back to Grand Cape Mount County and gave him (the child) $100.00 USD (One hundred United States Dollars).
At the village the soldiers preformed the twenty-one (21) salute ceremony as instructed by President Tubam and the child was finally endorsed as “Kennedy”.
