Wolokolie Reacts To Media Report,

- Defends Her Character
_ Takes “Chronicles” to PUL

“They want to destroy my character but, they do not have the power to do so because the Liberian people know what I stand for.” Those were the words of Mrs. Jamima Wolokolie, Acting Co-Chairperson of the proposed Democratic Alliance, in reaction to a March 1st 2010 edition of the National Chronicle Newspaper Captioned: “Meeting Hall Turns Battle Ground, Barely One Month Things Start To Fall Apart” in which she was linked with misconduct.
The Paper had reported that Madam Wolokolie walked out of meeting of the proposed political Party which was allegedly attended by 1,600 persons at Mrs. Madea Snow’s School located on 16TH Street, Sinkor.
According to the report, Madam Wolokolie also allegedly rained insults at partisans while leaving the meeting ground due to failure of the proposed party to provide US$50,000 to renovate a building she has offered free of charge to be used temporarily by the new political party, since it does not have Headquarters for now.
She said, her decision to offer her building adjacent the Cuttington Master Program in Congo Town was prompted by Edwin Snow’s decision to retract his earlier offer to the party regarding the use of his building on 18th Street and Payne Avenue in Sinkor as headquarters.
According to Madam Wolokolie, at the Party’s first meeting, Snow had offered his building in Sinkor to be used as Headquarters for the party, but that after few weeks of meetings, he retracted the offer, and “informed the party members that the availability of his building was no longer an option. In regards to those who chose to insert various allegations in the paper, with my name attached, I offered my building free of charge, ensuring adequate space and only needed small rehabilitation.”
She told reporters recently at a news conference that she did not want the party to renovate the building but noted that the request was made in the interest of the party since, according to her, Snow withdrew his promise.
Madam Wolokolie clarified that her building in question needed US$3,300 and not $US50, 000 as was reported by the National Chronicle, adding that the building only needed floor tile; something she believed has alleviated the problem of renting another building for thousands of United States Dollars.
The Acting Co-Chairman of the Party noted that the story, as reported, was far from the truth and only intended to damage her hard earned character, adding that “My character in Liberia speaks for itself, so I would never do anything what was unprofessionally written by the National Chronicle Newspaper.”
She said the meeting was attended by 150-175 persons and not 1,600 as was reported in the Newspaper.  “The Paper reported an unbalance story from what really happened at the meeting. They did not in fact exhibit the ethics of good journalism by not contacting me to get my side of the story.”
Madam Wolokolie described the action of the Chronicles Newspaper as an act of ‘yellow journalism’ and gave the management 48 hours to retract what she called false statements against her or she would institute a legal action against the Paper.
“I did not walk out of the meeting as it was reported. I also call on the Press Union of Liberia to warn reporters to stop damaging people’s hard earned characters for selfish interest.”
Meanwhile, Madam Wolokolie has called on the President of the Press Union to investigate the management of the Paper for what she rendered as unethical writing.
