The Legislative Caucus of the ruling Unity Party has said no where in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC’s) report which said that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf should not hold public office for 30years.
Speaking on behalf of the Caucus, Gbarpolu County’s Senior Senator, Theodore Momo said the TRC has only made recommendations that are yet to be fully agreed upon.
He said there are whole lots of constitutional adjustment that must be made prior to the implementation of the TRC’s report.
Senator Momo made the statement Friday during a press conference by members of the Legislative Caucus to back President Sirleaf’s second term.
“We the members of the Unity Party Legislative Caucus have unanimously resolved to support Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in her efforts to promote unity, peace, stability, freedom, security and mutual understanding among the people of Liberia”, the caucus said a press statement.
The Caucus said they are glad that following many calls from the citizens from across the length and breadth of the country calling on the President to seek a second term, she has finally agreed to do so.
The press statement read by the Secretary of the Caucus, Representative Kettertehkumuehn also stated that because of the good governance policy of their first partisan [President Sirleaf], the Country has gained its lost image. Representative Murray said Liberia which was considered a failed state has finally been restored amongst civilized nations because of the good leadership of President Sirleaf.
