SGBVCU Chief Prosecutor Tells Police

The Chief Prosecutor of the Sexual and Gender Based Violence Crime Unit (SGBVCU) of the Ministry of Justice has called on officers of the Women and Children Protection Section (WACPS) of the Liberia National Police to do more in investigating and gathering relevant facts on cases that are reported to them, especially gender and sex related crimes.

Police Adopt New SOP

More than 20 officers of the Women & Children Section of the LNP have concluded a two days Capacity Building Policy and Procedure Workshop on the topic “Identifying the Gaps for Challenges for WACPS/CSD.” The workshop, which is the second of the series, started on Friday and gathered investigators as well as prosecutors for crimes of sexual and gender based violence. Women and Children Protection officers from leeward counties were present to participate in the workshop.

Chevron To Explore Liberia’s Deep-water

  The Government of Liberia announced on Friday, August 27, that it has entered into an agreement with the Chevron Corporation to explore three deep-water concessions in Liberian waters.  Under the agreement, the company will conduct a three-year exploratory program that is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010.

LMC, UNESCO On Conflict Sensitive Reporting In Liberia

The Liberia Media Center, as part of activities marking its 5th Anniversary, has today released a baseline study on how the media in Liberia covers conflict related issues. The study is part of a broader project supported by UNESCO on “Conflict Sensitive Journalism” where close to sixty journalists, mainly community radio practitioners, were trained across the country.
